There is no question. Mummy-ing always comes first π©βπ§
This week has been a difficult one. Not only are we staying home to keep safe, Ben is working from home π§π½βπ» and my and Sofiaβs social arrangements are all on hold but Sofia is definitely teething πΆπ» Although there are no signs of teeth, there are rosy cheeks, a lot of drool and rubbing ears.
She gets respite on orange segments πwhich can be very juicy but it kept her quiet for a whole 20 mins while I peeled and chopped apple and pears for the next weeksβ breakfasts which is definitely a win πͺπ½
On Thursday night, rather than falling asleep in the Snuzpod next to my bed Sofia tossed and turned, kicked and cried until I cuddled her. A fellow mum reminded me that mummy cuddles are the best π€±π»There is no question that this little girl wanted mummy cuddles. Through the night Iβd get a hand or a foot reminding me.
At 5:55 on Friday morning, when my usual alarm went off I got out of bed – my body has clearly got used to this π₯± We had a similar night on Saturday and Sunday night and this morning my body clock finally gave up and I slept in. Though not for long π
This often happens with a baby. They are unpredictable, totally dependant and have no regard for what plans you may have.
And so how can one be a mummy that runs or a runner that mums? π€·π»ββοΈ
β¨ Being flexible.
β¨ Being kind.
β¨ Being determined.
This goes for all of us right now. Not just mums. Our lives are totally different. Each day we wake up and we donβt know what will be. Sadly there is a new death toll, a new number of cases, a new number in ICU, more friends falling to the virus π¦
This is also really scary.
Instead of running on Friday morning I did a light jog and a walk. Instead of running or getting out at all this morning, I took Sofia out for a walk in the afternoon. We ended up taking the most beautiful route locally π³πΈπ€ (beautiful for me, Sofia slept the whole way!) and although neither of these were my ideal as Iβd obviously like to run a perfect 5 mile run everyday in beautiful sunshine ππ»ββοΈβοΈ we have to accept our limits in whatever form they come in. Mine comes in a 7kg package of gorgeousness and Iβll choose her everyday over a full nightβs sleep and a βperfectβ run ππΆπ»
Whilst walking, I listened to the #WomensHealth podcast #GoingforGoals itβs great to listen to for motivation and practical ways to focus on your goals and take steps to achieve them π The presenter, Roisin Dervishokane, has been focusing on Coronavirus, and how to maintain our physical and mental health in light of the outbreak πͺπ½π§π»ββοΈ She spoke to a personal trainer from the Foundry. Itβs a great listen for retraining your expectations of your fitness and health goals ππ½ββοΈ
I found it so beneficial to get out and away from scrolling social media and watching or listening to the news on loop. It becomes really bleak π€― This pandemic is serious. For my own mental health, getting out the house for a walk or run at some point in the day really helps me ππΌ I know that some people canβt. The Womenβs Health podcast I mentioned above talks about all kinds of ways to get fit at home with what space we have. Have a listen!!
Be flexible in this climate. Be kind to yourself π Be determined to achieve the goals you set yourself even if they will be achieved by a different means π π π
