When I Google “Success” the following comes up:
- the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.
- the attainment of fame, wealth, or social status.
- a person or thing that achieves desired aims or attains fame, wealth, etc..
- the good or bad outcome of an undertaking.
Out on my runs or when running about the house, I have listened to some discussions on our generation’s understanding of success. The common understanding is that “success” is point 2 above, the attainment of fame, wealth, or social status. Why is this our understand of success? Do those things equate to happiness? If so, a lot of us will never be successful.
Points 1, the first half of point 3 and point 4 above have more to offer. (1) The accomplishment of an aim or purpose, (3) a person or thing that achieves desired aims and (4) the good or bad outcome of an undertaking. In all of these, it is completion that provides success which suggests that Corona will not get in the way of that provided that we aim to achieve something that is realistic in this climate. If your goals are to meet up with friends, host dinner parties and open a coffee shop you are unlikely to be successful.
If your goals are to spend more time with your family, take time with yourself and find out who you are without all the rush of everyday life to distract you, to identify what you are drawn to, to discover your passions, you can have real success. I have seen countless videos and heard some moving poems that describe how wonderful and unique this time is. Business must resume for the economy to keep afloat and for each household to keep running. Work as usual, so far as possible.
BUT… the clock has stopped, doors are closed, we must be inside with ourselves and our closest people. If we are lucky, these people are great, you chose to spend your life with them after all, and so we must make the most of the time we have been given to get to know them, let them get to know us and to help each other become our best selves in ability and character and therefore SUCCESSFUL.
The outside will open its doors in time so make the most of the quiet while it lasts and Corona is certainly not stifling our success so long as we understand what real success is and how to achieve it.
I recommend listening to Deliciously Ella’s podcast this week on Happily Ever Afters and Ilana Cowland on Aish Global’s Facebook Page on the topic of Understanding Sexism from a Jewish Perspective
Enjoy the pictures of the beautiful route I found and mentioned in my post, Mumma that Runs and Runner that Mums (yesterday).
