Mental Nourishment Is As Important As Physical Nourishment πŸŽπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ

How we feel inside and out, depends on what we are feeding ourselves. This includes actual food, your social feed and news feed which all effect us physically and emotionally. I could talk about food and mental and physical nutrition for days but a few small short points from me below.

What are you eating? πŸŽπŸ…πŸ‹πŸ₯’πŸ—πŸŒ°

Do you have a healthy balanced diet? I gave up β€œdieting” when I got married and that’s not because I let myself go 🀣 my poor husband! But because Ben introduced me to a whole new way of eating which meant that I could enjoy my food and feel good.

I spent years not eating carbs as most of my friends know. The reality is most white carbs don’t agree with me and I choose whole grains where possible and I now enjoy carbs without guilt or self hatred.

Now I eat what makes me feel good and feeling good is the best β€œdiet” of all. I generally try to stick to a few guidelines which help me feel good. I’m human and so holidays and weekends are often exactly that, holidays and weekends. I try to eat good balanced meals and not snack in between (like my Grandmama taught me). I also enjoy desserts and ice creams (like my Grandmama taught me) and just like everyone else.

What also makes me feel good is a social feed full of positivity, strength and inspiration. So that’s what I choose to follow and that’s what I choose to see. The more my social feed on Facebook and Instagram fills with advertising, rubbish videos and memes the more I feel empty. Unfortunately, we can’t control too much of our Facebook feed but we can control how much we look.

I want to feel full of positive, nourishing information. For me that’s an update on what a friend has done to celebrate their birthday, their family, their day or it could be a video of a cool recipe that I’d love to try. That makes me feel full and feel good.

What is your news source? πŸ“±πŸ“°πŸ—ž

Pre Corona Crisis the news was a bleak place. I remember at university a girl that I lived with listened to music in the morning and I watched the news. I don’t need to tell you who was in the better mood each day.

I have turned the news notifications off on my phone. I choose what I read carefully. I select which videos I watch. I love hearing from BoJo even though what he says is hard to hear sometimes and I think it’s important to listen to the Queen. I read a couple of articles a day but I stop myself there because any more than that and I find myself falling fast into a dark newsfeed hole.

How to fill yourself up with goodness… πŸ™πŸΌπŸŒΌπŸ₯°

1. Plan your meals and fill them with a variety of fruits, vegetables and spices. New family favourites are the trusted carrots and parsnips.

2. Try the recipe books that have been on your shelf for years. Mine are Deliciously Ella’s!

3. Eat intuitively – eat when, what and how much makes you feel good. Mel Wells book the Goddess Revolution is a great read recommended by a friend of mine. Very good if you are looking to change your philosophy on dieting.

4. Scroll consciously.

5. Recognise what makes you feel good and what doesn’t and react to that. Mental nourishment is as important as physical nourishment.

6. Select information carefully. Stick with factual and reliable information like the government websites and the NHS.

7. Listen to podcasts on positive topics which interest you. Deliciously Ella talks about a lot of topics that I enjoy and her conversational podcasts are always uplifting. Women’s Health do a few series, Going for Goals which I’ve mentioned before and Power, Body, Love which I’m keen to get into and is about body positivity.
