- Cover up – wear long leggings, long sleeves and take a cap (rather than a woolly hat) or wear a hood.
- Bear in mind that rain is usually warm especially in April/ May time so layer up – thin layers like a t-shirt and a thin long sleeve waterproof top with a hood should do – something that you can take off swiftly and wrap around your waist.
- Trainers – your trainers should be water proof – wet feet are the worst.
- Be careful with electronics in the rain – shocks are not fun.
- Consider the terrain – if you are running through fields they are likely to be muddy and could even be water logged so try to avoid them.
- STOP. LOOK. LISTEN. Roads are slippery in the rain – cars take longer to stop so do not take any risks when crossing a road.
- Check the weather at the beginning of the day – try and head out when the rain is light or there is a gap of dry weather – bear in mind that the roads and paths will still be wet.
